Santa vs Snowman 3D (re-released?)
November 28th 2008 00:01
Christmas is up ahead (well, sort of) and it's a typical holiday for re-runs and re-releases. This silly but fun little movie of Steve Oedekerk about basically the battle of Hoth reimagined on the North Pole, just debuted in Hungary, although it's not especially fresh (released in 2002 and had a re-release in 2003 in Australia).
Just like Polar Express, this movie is often revisited this time of year. As the movie business is not charity, it must be because there is need for them, or even moreso: all jokes are new to a newborn, so the target audience will replenish much quicker, than the fanbase of the next episode of the Saw continuity.
For those of you who missed this, here's a quick review, as a present.
It's the time right before Christmas, and Santa and his elves are making the final preparations, when the lonely and mute Snowman half-accidentaly steals a flute from Santa village. As the militaristic elves try to capture the intruder, poor Snowman is chased away, and he swores retaliation by overthrowing the Santa government. Replacing elves with scary snowman clones, and crowning this coup d'état with becoming Santa himself.
As the rather unregular Christmas story evolves, keeping it lighthearted of course, it concludes to an expected happy ending, luckily with just a pinch of moral conclusion, and a whole snowball of sillyness.
Following the safe family comedy recipe, there are many hints and jokes that only adults will apprehend, while keeping adequate amount of simple jokes for the youth. With the usual IMAX running time of around 40 mins, even the smallest bladders will remain seated till the end.
If you have a youngster in your kinship, then this might worth a trip to the IMAX theatre near you, as it's tipicaly a piece that offers the best experience on the giant 3D screen. For home entertainment there's always The Star Wars Holiday Special.
...I know, it was a terrible joke. Seriously, erase that last line from your memory!
